Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Malindi, Kenya to Inhaca, Mozambique.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Brownish with irregular dark saddles; large dark spot on upper pectoral base (Ref. 2798).
