Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  19 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Often seen with other sand-dwelling cichlids. Although it prefers shallow water, it may penetrate deeper layers as well. Feeds on small scales of fins and peduncle of haplochromines (Maravichromis sp.) (Ref. 5595).
