Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 5-5; Vertebrae: 35-36. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: prominent adipose-like skin crest present on the dorsal margin of the caudal peduncle; an interrupted supraorbital canal; small premaxilla, smaller than the maxilla, with an accentuated constriction on its lateral portion; interopercular odontodes 37-44; minute pectoral-fin filament, about 10 % of the pectoral-fin length or less; dorsal-fin origin at the vertical through the centrum of the 16th vertebra; spotted colour pattern; pectoral fin 15.1-17.7 % SL; slender body, more conspicuous in specimens between about 45 and 50 mm SL; no sexual dimorphism in colour pattern (Ref. 137707).
