Family:  Claroteidae (Claroteid catfishes), subfamily: Claroteinae
Max. size:  36 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 515.0 g
Environment:  demersal
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 55984).
Diagnosis:  Description: lower jaw extending beyond upper; post-cleithral process not well-developed; toothplates on vomer and pterygoids of equal width (Ref. 75075).
Biology:  Most common in sub-littoral area but extend to 150 m, with larger individuals at greater depths. Inhabits muddy bottoms (Ref. 6868). Feeds mainly on fish (Ref. 4967). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Male parent guards the eggs (Ref. 45232).
