Family:  Ophidiidae (Cusk-eels), subfamily: Neobythitinae
Max. size:  27.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 1270 - 3000 m
Distribution:  Northwest Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Head small, about 3 times in preanal distance; eye small; anterior nostril without thick, fleshy raised rim; developed gill rakers 5-7; precaudal vertebrae 18; branchiostegal rays 7 (Ref. 34024).
Biology:  Locally abundant (Ref. 34024). Sexually mature at 23.3 cm SL (Ref. 34024). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).
