Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range - 350 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Red Sea, off Indonesia to Japan and Hawaii.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-15; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 15-15. Body elongate and rounded. Adipose tissue around eye well-developed, with a rather undeveloped eyelid. Scales large, cycloid, and very deciduous.
Biology:  Mesobenthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Considered rare but sometimes taken in large quantities by purse seine off Japan (Ref. 12862).
