Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Cichlasomatinae
Max. size:  17 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5; dH range: 6
Distribution:  South America: Magdalena, Atrato, SinĂº, and San Juan River basins in Colombia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  In swamps and lakes; can be very abundant; not esteemed as food fish (Ref. 40602). Both parents defend eggs and larvae (Ref. 40602).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 08 October 2014 Ref. (123251)
Threat to humans:  harmless
