Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Los Laureles Cave in Socuy River basin, Lake Maracaibo drainage, Venezuela.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-8; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Reduced ocular orbits (orbital diameter with a ratio 10.1 to 12.4 times the head length); absent or atrophied eye balls; body unpigmented. Depressed head; naked anterior portion of mouth, belly and breast; lips papillated; a reduced barbel at corners of the mouth; no dermal cirri in the snout; hooked preopercular spines, 13-16, the longest is 3.11-4.28 times smaller than the interorbital length; 3 unkeeled plates bordering the supraoccipital posteriorly, the middle not divided in the midline. Body depressed and caudal fin convex with lower lobe longest.
