Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 2 - 17 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: known only from the Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, and Persian Gulf.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 14-15. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: anal soft rays 14 or 15; caudal fin length 2.75-3.25 in SL; a black spot on nape above opercle; two black spots on first dorsal fin; presence of curving dark brown line from below eye to posterior margin of maxilla; irregular brown markings in white spaces between brownish-red bars on body (Ref. 82599).
Biology:  Lives on sand-rubble substrata, symbiotic with Alpheus bellulus (Ref. 11441).
