Distribution: Western Pacific: Thailand to Sulawesi, north to the Philippines. The record from the Marshall Islands is based on two small specimens may represent either an allopatric form of Paramonacanthus japonicus or an undescribed species (Ref. 33065, Hutchins pers. comm. 12/08/03).
