Remarks | Kelat is best caught with nets during spawning migration. This migration is well known by Peleliuan fishers. Three days before the full moon, mature individuals near Peleliu form schools in the lagoon and move to the edge of the western fringing reef using pathways familiar to fishers who set their nets there. It is said that catches have dwindled due to net and dynamite fishing. Seasonal clockwise migration has also been observed. Schools north of Peleliu move northwards up the west coast of Babeldaob. They start to appear in Ngeremlengui in November and continue to move northwards for another six months. Upon reaching the northern tip the schools start to swim southwards down the east coast. Also Ref. 10494, 100789. |
