Etymology: Priolepis: Greek, prio = to saw + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335);  limbatosquamis: Name from Latin limbus meaning 'an edge' and squama for scale; presumably referring to the chromatophores outlining the scale pockets (Ref. 10753).

Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range Ecology

Marine; reef-associated; non-migratory; depth range 3 - 26 m (Ref. 58302). Tropical

Size / Weight / Age

Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 2.2 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 28618)

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 8. This species differs in having the following characters: prominent, dark-edged, pupil-diameter light band, starting under the pectoral-fin base and continuing across the nape; low ray counts, dorsal-fin with 9 and anal-fin with 8; posterior nasal opening 2-3 times the diameter of the anterior opening; reduced number of sensory papillae in the paired longitudinal nasal-interorbital row, 3 or 4 per row (vs. 5-7 per row) (Ref. 10753).

Estimates based on models

Preferred temperature (Ref. 123201): 24.8 - 25.8, mean 25.3 °C (based on 37 cells).
Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01023 (0.00477 - 0.02194), b=3.02 (2.84 - 3.20), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.1   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
