Etymology: Notothenia: Greek, noton = filament + Greek, adverbial particle, then, that denotes distance or removal (Ref. 45335); cyanobrancha: cyanobrancha from Greek, cyanus dark blue and branchia gills, for blue gills (Ref. 11892). More on author: Richardson.
This species is placed in the genus Indonotothenia Balushkin, 1984 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Balushkin (2000). Send references, or more studies are needed.
