North America: Mobile Bay drainage in southeastern Tennessee, northwestern Georgia, Alabama and northeastern Mississippi, USA.
Inhabit gravel and rubble-bottomed pools and runs of creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294). Juveniles and young adults live in quieter waters with less coarse substrates (Ref. 10294). Feed mainly on midge and blackfly larvae (Ref. 10294).
