Asia: Mekong and Chao Phraya basins, Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
Found in midwater to bottom levels in small rivers, canals, ponds and reservoirs (Ref. 12693). Occurs in medium to large-sized rivers (Ref. 12975). Moves out into flooded forest during high-water season. Diet consists mainly of insects with some aquatic macrophytes. Used to make prahoc. (Ref. 12693).
