Presence of a black stripe running from head to an enlarged blotch at caudal-fin base, not extending onto the fin itself; 10 predorsal scales; large maxillary and rostral barbels; 18-20 gill rakers on first arch (Ref. 12693).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Occurs usually in large rivers with turbid water, often found under floating houses, logs, boats (Ref. 43281). Found at bottom depths of rivers. Probably moves into the floodplains during high water periods and may spawn there. Feeds on algae, periphyton, phytoplankton and some zooplankton. Used for prahoc or nuoc mam (Ref. 12693).
