Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Lacustrine, in open waters (Ref. 59043). Feeds on bottom invertebrates and on semi-pelagic crustaceans (Mysis relicta), and also on their own eggs (Ref. 6258). Status of threat: Threatened by eutrophication, introductions and warming of lakes. Only remaining abundant population in Lough Neagh (Ref. 59043).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

Spawning takes place in the lakes, over beds of gravel or stones in relatively shallow waters. The eggs fall into spaces between the stones.

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00537 (0.00262 - 0.01101), b=3.22 (3.06 - 3.38), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.6   ±0.40 se; based on food items.
Generation time: 1.7 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 1 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (K=0.65; tm=3-4; tmax=10).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (23 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Very high.
Nutrients (Ref. 124155):  Calcium = 21.7 [10.1, 46.6] mg/100g; Iron = 0.481 [0.288, 0.759] mg/100g; Protein = 18.1 [16.8, 19.3] %; Omega3 = 2.31 [0.76, 8.33] g/100g; Selenium = 24 [9, 61] μg/100g; VitaminA = 29.3 [9.2, 89.6] μg/100g; Zinc = 0.658 [0.491, 0.881] mg/100g (wet weight);
