Etymology: Roeboides: Latin, rubus, ruber, reddish;  bussingi: Named for William Bussing, an exceptional ichthyologist who has devoted his professional career to the understanding of the Costa Rican and Central American ichthyofauna. He was the first to suggest that the species described herein was new to science..
