Etymology: Pareutropius: Greek, par = beside, near + Greek, eu = well + Greek, tropis = keel, in reference to the compressed body of the fish.

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 1; Anal soft rays: 28 - 36. Diagnosis: pectoral-fin spines denticulate; 28-36 branched anal-fin rays; 5-9 gill rakers on lower limb of first gill arch; only one pair of mandibular barbels; palatine teeth present (Ref. 57127). Coloration: in live as well as in preserved specimens, head and back brown; dark brown mid-lateral band runs from just behind eye to hind margin of caudal fin; short second lateral band begins above pectoral-fin base and runs obliquely backwards to above anal-fin base; both caudal-fin tips with a dark brown, more or less elongate spot; dorsal fin, pectorals and pelvics unpigmented (Ref. 57127).
