Etymology: Labeo: Latin, labeo = one who has large lips (Ref. 45335); polli: Name is dedicated to Prof. Max Poll, one of the great Belgian ichthyologists who contributed most to the knowledge of the ichthyofauna of the Congo basin, next to G.A. Boulenger (Ref. 26192).

Lips plicate; dorsal fin falciform with 4 simple an 10 branched rays; snout with small transverse furrow and a fleshy appendix; two pairs of barbels small or concealed; eyes in superolateral position; body elongated with a dark brown lateral band; genital orifice very far from origin of the anal fin (Ref. 26192).
