Classification / Names Common names | Synonyms | Catalog of Fishes (gen., sp.) | ITIS | CoL | WoRMS | Cloffa

Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) > Cypriniformes (Carps) > Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps) > Labeoninae
Etymology: Labeo: Latin, labeo = one who has large lips (Ref. 45335).

Issue
According to Fricke (2008: Ref. 83466) and Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870), this species has been wrongly named Labeo niloticus (Forsskål, 1775) for a long time, and should be named Labeo vulgaris Haeckel, 1847. This needs further evidence and we keep Labeo niloticus but with the authorship as (Linnaeus, 1758) until the case is fixed.

Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00832 (0.00415 - 0.01667), b=3.01 (2.84 - 3.18), based on LWR estimates for species & Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic Level (Ref. 69278):  2.5   ±0.28 se; Based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 69278):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low to moderate vulnerability (30 of 100) .
