Vertebrae: 59 - 61. Upper jaw longer than in Hyporhamphus balinensis and Hyporhamphus affinis, its length almost equal to its width; vertebrae 58 or more; preorbital bone 1.1-1.6 times in diameter of orbit.
Northwest Pacific: known only from Okinawa and the adjacent island of Ie. Reported from Taiwan (Ref. 5193).
