Etymology: Ctenochromis: Greek, kteis, ktenos = comb + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).

(total): 14 - 17. Abrupt change in size of scales from chest to flank between pectoral and pelvic fins, with naked patch on chest.
Africa: streams in south eastern Tanzania near Korogwe. Also reported from Kenya (Ref. 30558). In the IUCN Red List this species is erroneously recorded as 'extinct', since it is probably confused with another cichlid species of Lake Victoria, Haplochromis squamulatus.
Inhabits rivers (Ref. 4967).
