Older males get a notable hump on their heads but nothing like the some Central American cichlids. This fish is not very colorful and interesting for the aquarium trade (Ref. 12251).
South America: Paraná River basin, in the Paraguay River drainage in Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, and the Paraná River drainage of Argentina.
