Etymology: Akrokolioplax: Name from a combination of the Greek 'akrokolion' for extremities of the body, especially of animals (snout, ears, or trotters); and 'plax' meaning flat and broad; referring to the presence of a pair of fleshy rostral flap on the tip of the snout..

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Body grayish black on dorsal and sides and with cloudy stripes, abdomen grayish white; caudal fin gray and with black lower margin. Head small; snout bluntly conical; rostral skin extending downward covering upper jaw; upper lip absent; lower lip separated from lower jaw with a transverse belt in anterior part and covered with papilla; upper and lower jaws covered with thin cutting edges (Ref. 45536).

Asia: known from the upper Salween River (Nu Jiang in Chinese) basin in Yunnan (South China), Myanmar and Thailand.
