Freshwater; benthopelagic; pH range: 6.5 - 7.5; dH range: 8 - 10; non-migratory. Tropical; 21°C - 22°C (Ref. 13371)

Africa: Senegal, Gambia, Burkina Faso (Upper Volta), Mali, and Niger. Extends southward over the Accra plains in southeastern Ghana and southwestern Togo.
Occurs in temporary pools and swamps in the savanna (Ref. 3788). Bottom spawner, 3-4 months incubation. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
