Tanganikallabes mortiauxi is distinguished from its congeners by the morphology of the vomerine toothpad, which, at its widest point anteroposteriorly, is thicker than the premaxillary toothpad; the presence of a complete lateral line; free lower orbital margin; well-defined, thick basal membranes on the barbels; and a larger eye (Ref. 90118).

Found among stones on rocky shores of lakes (Ref. 4967, 78218). Diet of type specimen consisted of insect larvae (Ref. 78218).
