Vertebrae: 34 - 36. The dorsal, pectoral and adipose fins each have a distinct spine anteriorly; a series of bony scutes cover the body posterior of the dorsal-fin origin; the lateral abdominal surface is not covered with superficial scutes; the scapulo-coracoid and clavicle lack superficial rugose plates (Ref. 90257).
Africa: upper Niger and upper Nile river systems, tributaries of Lake Chad basin, as well as Omo River (Ref. 90257).
