Eastern Atlantic: Portugal to Morocco and from Mauritania to Angola.
Occurs in reefs and rocky areas from the shoreline to 200 m depth (Ref. 2683). Minimum depth reported from Ref. 27000. Nocturnal (Ref. 6537). Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 6746).
