Indo-Pacific: East Africa to Samoa, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to the northern Great Barrier Reef.
Occurs in silty bottoms of lagoon or coastal reefs (Ref. 9710). Common near areas with terrestrial runoff (Ref. 1602). Lives with alpheid shrimps (Ref. 30404). Found in coastal waters, near reefs on sand with rubble (Ref. 48637).
