Etymology: Bedotia: After Maurice Bedot, 1859-1927; born in Geneva, systematist on Hydrozoan; alveyi: The species is named in honor of Dr. Mark Alvey (FMNH) in recognition of his tremendous efforts to promote natural history research and species discovery during his tenure as Administrative Director of Academic Affairs (Ref. 84245).
