Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Diagnosed from other cisco species in Europe by possessing the following characters: in life and shortly after death, head and body dark grey to black with violet iridescences; eye diameter 22-27% HL; lateral line straight; and gill rakers 41-46. Differs from sympatric Coregonus albula in Lake Onega by having all fins dark grey to black (vs. hyaline), eggs dark yellowish pink (vs. pale yellow); and usually attaining maturity at 20 cm SL (vs. 9-12 cm SL) (Ref. 59043).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found in lakes at all depths. Preys on zooplankton and small benthos during juvenile stage and switches to fish diet at 17-20 cm SL. Life span ranges from 7-9 years, with exceptional records up to 19 years (Ref. 59043).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00537 (0.00262 - 0.01101), b=3.22 (3.06 - 3.38), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.4   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Low, minimum population doubling time 4.5 - 14 years (tm=4-6).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Moderate vulnerability (38 of 100).
