Morphology | Morphometrics
soft rays: 27 - 29;
Vertebrae: 31 - 32. Presence of the distinct black reticulated pattern up to 5 scale rows in depth on side of body above anal-fin base in females and juveniles, black patch in males. Lower half of caudal fin and posterior half of anal fin in females with orange or yellow subdistal band when live, pale band when preserved. Anal-fin with 28-30 rays. Dorsal fin with 8-10 rays, no spine. Lateral line with 32-34 scales. Predorsal scales 21-23. Predorsal length 64.4-68.0 % SL (Ref. 57022).
Inhabits mainly slow flowing small streams in swampy areas of the heath forest, although it can also be found in faster flowing larger tributaries (Ref. 57022). Occurs in these habitats with very acidic waters due to the presence of subterranean and surface coal (Ref. 57022).
