Vertebrae: 33. Diagnosed from all other species of the genus Bryconamericus by its low number of vertebrae 33, completely ossified pterotic, a bent end of the pelvic bone, and nasal bones absent (Ref. 56110).
South America: Río Napo in Ecuador and Ríos Putumayo and Orteguaza in the upper Amazon basin in Colombia.
