Etymology: Ompok: It is a bad reproduction of a Malayam fish name as limpok/ompok (Ref. 45335);  platyrhynchus: Specific name from the Greek platys, meaning flat, and rhynchos, meaning nose; in reference to the lack of a distinct nuchal concavity.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 2; Anal soft rays: 74 - 80; Vertebrae: 59 - 60. Having 74-80 anal-fin rays; lacking a distinct nuchal concavity; body depth 13.5-17.7% SL; snout length 37.1-38.1% HL; maxillary barbels reaching to middle of pectoral fin; vertebrae 59-60 (Ref. 53259).
