Vertebrae: 40 - 41. Position of the nostrils slightly variable, the distance between both the anterior and posterior nostrils being approximately equal (Ref. 43912). Lower jaw shorter than the upper jaw and completely surrounded by the upper lips when mouth is closed (Ref. 43912). Barbels very long; the nasal barbel always reaching to the posterior border of the opercle or somewhat further; the maxillary barbel at least reaching to the end of the pectoral spine; the outer mental barbel reaching to midway along the pectoral spine (Ref. 43912). Inner side of the pectoral spine feebly serrated (Ref. 43912). 38-44 branched anal fin rays (Ref. 43912). Color pattern characterized by a brown back and head, a large dark (brown) stripe along the lateral line and an oblique brown stripe from below the anterior part of the lateral line to the origin of the anal fin (Ref. 43912).
Oviparous, eggs are unguarded (Ref. 205).
