Vertebrae: 26 - 28. Possesses a distinct blotch on superficial portion of the cleithrum, but distinguished by color pattern of flanks which includes about 11 dark brown to blackish vertical bars, commonly connected by similarly pigmented horizontal band, and by having single short extrascapular with one distal pore instead of two. Interorbital space 5.9-6.8% SL. Rounded caudal fin with no dark blotch on caudal peduncle (Ref. 46238).
