Etymology: Scorpaenodes: Latin, scorpaena = a kind of fish, 1706 + Greek oides = similar to (Ref. 45335); immaculatus: From the Latin meaning unstained or unspotted, in reference to the diagnostic lack of pronounced markings on the body and fins typical of other Scorpaenodes.
