Etymology: Channa: Greek, channe, -es = an anchovy (Ref. 45335).

This species is synonym of Channa micropeltes (Cuvier, 1831) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Courtenay & Williams (2004). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
