Etymology: Gasterosteus: Greek, gaster = stomach + Greek, osteon = bone (Ref. 45335).
This species is synonym of Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus, 1758 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Monod (1973). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
