This species differs from its congeners by the following set of characteristics: maxillary barbel reaching three fourths along pectoral fin; outer mental barbel not reaching pectoral-fin base; gill rakers on first branchial arch 5-7; vertebrae 41-43; pleural ribs 9; pectoral fin with modally seven branched rays; first basal radial of dorsal fin inserted posterior to vertebrae 11-12; anal fin with 12-15 rays (7-9 branched); caudal-fin lobes pointed; upper caudal-fin lobe with 7 branched rays; lower caudal-fin lobe markedly longer than upper caudal-fin lobe (29.8-33.5% of SL, 1.5 times in HL); pigmentation of the body uniform; cleithral width, 13.6-14.5% of SL; anal-fin base, 12.1-14.8% of SL; caudal peduncle depth, 5.7-6.9% of SL; head length, 20.1-22.2% of SL, 4.5-4.9 times in SL (Ref. 78618).
