Etymology: Schizothorax: Greek, schizein = to divide * Greek, thorax = breast (Ref. 45335). More on author: Berg.
Issue on validity of subspecies: subspecies considered as valid in FB, synonymized with the species Schizothorax pseudoaksaiensis Herzenstein, 1888 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). Please send references, or more studies are needed.

Spawning occurs in Issyk-kul proper, over stony bottom, from May until mid July. Captured by fishermen during spring until autumn near the shore. Enters the tributaries of the Issyk-kul in spring, at the end of April and the beginning of May (Ref. 1441).
