soft rays: 8. Distinguished from its congener occurring in Indochinese area by 14-15 1/2 branched dorsal rays and a complete lateral line; suborbital flap present in males. Distinguished from A. zonalternans by a greater standard length (up to 8 cm, versus 4.5), a shorter predorsal length (43.2-46.0% SL, versus 43.5-53.4) and a smaller eye (4.1-5.7% SL, versus 5.9-8.7; 19-26% HL, versus 26-35).
