Etymology: Labeotropheus: Latin, labeo = one who has large lips + Greek, tropaion = defeat, a memorial of a fighting war, trophy; because of their specialized teeth were such an obvious feeding adaptation (Ref. 45335).

Africa: Boadzulu, Thumbi West, Zimbawe, Mumbo, Nakantenga, Maleri, Nankoma and Namalenje Islands, Masinje Rocks, Chirombo Point to Nkhata Bay and Lion's Cove to Chitande in Lake Malawi.
Scrapes algae off rocks and also takes in small crustaceans and worms (Ref. 7020).
