Anterior nostril pierced at the anterior base of a long nasal barbel; color patter consists of 7-13 short saddles restricted to the dorsal half of body and a black blotch at caudal fin base; caudal is hyaline, without marking; a dark epaxial stripe is conspicuous in life as well as in preserved specimens. In freshly preserved specimens, the belly is white and the dorsal half of the body has an olive yellow background coloration.
Asia: Malay Peninsula from Narathiwat (Thailand) to Johor (Malaysia), Sumatra and West Java (Indonesia).
Restricted to peats in dense litter falled canals (Ref. 57235). Found among submerged vegetation along shores of stream with moderate current and clear and relatively cold water. Occurs sympatrically and syntopically with P. kuhlii in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Java.
