Disjunct circumglobal distribution in the region of and north of the Subtropical Convergence. Eastern Atlantic: south of about 21°S, east of about 5°E. The species is absent west of 40°W and east of 1°-5°E in the region of the Convergence.
Oceanic and mesopelagic. Occurs at depths between 350- 2,390 m during the day and in the upper 150 m at night (Ref. 4066). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
