Vertebrae: 44 - 46. Pre-pectoral scutes present (13-17 prepelvic, 1-2 before origin of pectoral; 8-11 postpelvic). First prepectoral scute longer and more developed than others lacking ascending arms. Lower jaw strongly projecting, with strong canines at symphysis. Lower gill rakers short, less than corresponding gill filaments. Silver stripe along flank.
Africa: Senegal to Angola.
Found in rivers and streams. Also in lagoons (Ref. 2849).
