Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-19; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 27 - 28. Petrocephalus congicus differs from P. haullevillii by a rosette of electroreceptor organs above the eye, which is absent in P. haullevillii (Ref. 91771).
