Asia: known only from Lake Jamur in the center of the narrow isthmus that separates the Bomberai and Vogelkop peninsulas (Irian Jaya, Indonesia) from the remainder of New Guinea.

Adults occur in a shallow lake with clear water and moderate aquatic vegetation (Ref. 2847). Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205).
