Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) > Myctophiformes
(Lanternfishes) > Myctophidae
(Lanternfishes) > Lampanyctinae
Etymology: Nannobrachium: Latin, nannus = small + Latin, brachium = the upper arm from the shoulder to the elbow; 1731 (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; bathypelagic; oceanodromous (Ref. 51243); depth range 60 - 1150 m (Ref. 36121). Deep-water; 42°N - 37°S, 82°W - 153°W
Tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Eastern Atlantic: disjunct distribution between 35°N-27°S and in Agulhas Water pockets (absent over the upwelling region between 17°N-9°N, east of 30°W). Western Atlantic: disjunct distribution between 42°N-10°S. Indian Ocean: between 8°N-0°. Western Central Pacific: Philippines. Considerable differences between Atlantic and Indo-Pacific material suggests that there may be more than one species involved (Ref. 36121).
Length at first maturity / Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?, range 15 - ? cm
Max length : 23.7 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 36121)
Oceanic (Ref. 4066), found between 650-1,000 m during the day; between 60-225 m at night (maximum abundance (mainly juveniles) at 100 m) (Ref. 4479). Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302). Uncommon species (Ref. 36121).
